1. Take time out — minutes

Add spaciousness by stopping for a minute to focus on your breath. Deepen down into your abdomen and notice the difference this makes to how you feel.

You can do this throughout your day to help you stay in charge of the threat of overwhelm. It is a stress-busting tip that takes less than a minute, yet allows you to gather your scattered thoughts.

It’s not always possible, but working alongside others or asking for support, can be fun and productive.

Bring awareness to your heart. Breathe deeply and visualise yourself being centred, balanced and still. From your heart space bring in qualities of compassion and love. This is very different from the mind that is making constant demands of you.

It’s all around you!

Take a second to glance out of the window and check the colour of the sky, listen to a blackbird outside or pause to look into someone’s eyes and notice the sparkle there!
