Sometimes you just need a few simple words, powerful and succinct, to inspire you. I love these mindfulness and meditation quotes.
Take a few moments to read through these words of wisdom. If any of them really call to you – write them out on pieces of paper and keep them handy as tiny reminders for relaxation, meditation and mindfulness.
I’ve added links to most of them too, so you can explore some of the people behind the quotes.
Every one of us already has the seed of mindfulness. The practice is to cultivate it.
Thich Nhat Hanh
Rest & self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.
‘Come and sit down beside me,’
I said to myself,
And although it doesn’t make sense,
I held my own hand
As a small sign of trust
And together I sat on the fence.
… to listen to the soul is to slow down, to feel deeply, to see ourselves clearly, to surrender to discomfort and uncertainty, and to wait … unfold your arms and lean back, and say to your soul, ‘Just sing me your song. Teach me the words. Tell me what you know.’
The next time you sense a strong emotion, take some time to put a finger on exactly what you’re feeling. Get quiet, turn inward, and just listen …
Sometimes I need
only to stand
wherever I am
to be blessed.
Awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet
immensity of your own presence.
… So come as you are. The magic is being willing to be open to that, being willing to be fully awake to that. One of the main discoveries of meditation is seeing how we continually run away from the present moment, how we avoid being here just as we are. That’s not considered to be a problem; the point is to see it.
Meditation is power. Enter chaos from the place of Internal stillness, and your stillness becomes a chaos buster.
Quiet your mind. Breathe and let go of words, worry and plans. Go into that space of silence deep within you, that vortex of peace …
The word equanimity comes from Latin roots meaning “even” and “mind”. With equanimity, what passes through your mind is held with spaciousness so you stay even-keeled and aren’t thrown off balance.
Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.
The universe is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to become sharper.
Feelings arise. They often rush into the empty space created when we slow down and sit still. Do not suppress them or deny them, but embrace them with mindfulness. Blocking them is like blocking a stream with sticks and mud. Blocked emotions eventually gather enough pressure to break through the dams we construct.
Meditation is not a way of making the mind quiet. It’s a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there – buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.
And sometimes the most important thing in a day is the rest we take between two deep breaths …
Practice presence. Embrace the place where life happens.
Inner peace begins the moment you take a deep breath and choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions.
We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make our world.
Remember one thing: meditation means awareness. Whatsoever you do with awareness is meditation.
