We take for granted so many things.
We don’t always stop to appreciate them. Magical things you discover through mindfulness.
In her book, ‘An Altar in the World’, Barbara Brown Taylor reveals the countless ways we can discover daily magic. These include the ordinary everyday experiences of our lives and the detail of nature all around.
Stop and Notice the Magical Things!
So stop! Keep an eye out wherever you are.
None of these experiences last longer than a few moments. Notice the rainbow, the tiny wren, dewdrops and spider’s webs. They may be just a blink of an eye away. And they usually only last seconds.
Or the few words shared with a stranger while out on a walk. Or the laughter you shared with your child or grandchild.
All moments that pass quickly. Without being present to them, we simply don’t notice.
Keep a Note
Better still, keep a note of the magical things that catch your eye.
As you get ready for bed, a lovely part of your routine might be to recall the magical things you noticed earlier in your day. Write them down in a notebook as part of your intention to be more grateful and more aware in your life.
And as Barbara Brown Taylor says:
‘Paying attention requires no equipment, no special clothes, no greens fees or personal trainers … All you need is a body on this earth, willing to notice where it is, trusting that even something as small as a hazelnut can become an altar in this world.’
