Effortless Calm
Do you want to make effortless calm and serenity an integral part of your day?
The best way to start is by experiencing it when the pressure is not on.
Take this coming weekend for example. You and your family may not be working or running your usual workday schedule, but are you booked up to the ears with plans?
It might be a series of chores that need to be done, family responsibilities and perhaps some social obligations. It might even feel that your ‘free time’ is more demanding than you care to admit.
The Diary
When you get the diary out to plan your weekends, the key is not to fill it up.
Keep it as empty as you can.
Allow space.
I suppose I might be thinking of the endless days in my childhood where it was perfectly normal to have nothing much planned and listen to the sound of your own needs.
So for me that led to story-writing, reading, colouring-in or playing outside on scooters.
Simple Pleasures
Allow yourself and your children, to experience simple pleasures; potter about, daydream, take it easy.
This effortless calm is then a guide to your body. It lets your brainwaves slow down and relax to what’s called your Alpha brainwave activity.
Schedule time for these replenishing kinds of days. They remind you what it feels like to step off the conveyer belt of being busy.
They remind you what calm and serenity feel like.
The greater the level of calmness of our mind, the greater our peace of mind, the greater our ability to enjoy a happy and joyful life
~ Dalai Lama
Effortless calm when you’re busy
And when you’ve remembered that, you are sure to want more of it throughout your week.
The lessons from your effortlessly calm weekends can be applied to your working days. When you’re well-rested it’s easier to stay calm while you’re facing challenges.
So schedule in time and space throughout your working day.
This need only be simple moments of stillness and quiet in-between busy tasks.
- A couple of mindful breaths
- Or a quiet 10 minute walk round the block
Integrate small moments of calm and they can be enough to help you maintain a happy and well-balanced life.
Enjoy your effortless calm!
