An Essential Skill: Your Inner Serenity
Mindfulness and meditation are the starting points for you to find your inner serenity
This is a deep most powerful place within you.
Albert Einstein called it ‘deep time’, a state of ‘only being’.
You’re Wearing Disguises
As you grew up, you found your way through a life which may have felt hostile and harsh. Starting with parents and siblings, you began to create disguises in order to fit in.
You still have that inner essence, your unique soul, that spark you were born with. Whatever way you wish to describe it.
It’s still there, beneath layer upon layer of protective disguises.
The disguises have got you to this point in your life. Yet inside us we all carry stories, assumptions, hurts, pain, shame and blame. We’ve disguised our original selves. And covered up our vulnerabilities.
Yet beneath your disguises you will find your inner serenity. Your true self that’s unique to you.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with any of these ‘disguises’. We create a healthy life when we build on our natural strengths. Yet we often shut off from emotions and the experience of being our singular, true self.
We shut off from the deeper experience of being us!
Sit in stillness with your inner serenity
In order to have more of a match between your inner and outer life, requires that you find your inner serenity. Then you’re no longer at the beck and call of a non-wakeful society. This is the practice of mindfulness and meditation.
‘All the problems of mankind stem from man’s inability to sit alone in a room by himself.’
Blaise Pascal
Listen in to your own inspiration. Not from your mind, but from a deeper space within your heart and body.
Create your inner serenity from a space of love
Even if you’re unfamiliar with this space of so-called love and stillness, be willing to open to it.
That’s all you need to do to start with. Until you begin to feel fleeting moments of inner calm, compassion, kindness and love.
And eventually, from this space of inner serenity you can grow it into your everyday life.
‘Rest in awareness. Fully embodied and fully awake … make room for your own innate wisdom, awareness, your miraculous self.’
Jon Kabat-Zinn
