I've been marvelling at the spiders who have set up home on both wing mirrors of my car. They seem to be tucked behind the mirrors and emerge for some Extreme Sport activity as I head off up the A3. Perhaps they are adrenaline junkies; very adept at producing lengths of spun silk, at top speed, to prevent themselves from hurtling off into oblivion. I wondered why they chose what appears to be such an inhospitable spot to survive, when we are, quite clearly, surrounded by lush countryside. No different from humans, I decided. We often make our lives more difficult than they need to be, or we don't see an alternative as we're stuck with a habit that might be uncomfortable but feels 'safe'. Hmmmm.
