Blogging my way to Heaven

A Clear View

So today I went for a walk at Kingley Vale. Once again, I know of the place, but have never done a proper walk here. It was raining and windy, but it was the most magical walk. I went up a steep hill and entered the ancient yew forest - suddenly the wind and rain were outside for a moment and it felt utterly still. A pheasant scurried off quickly and a couple of groups of birds scattered out from the treetops as I crept along. All through the walk I kept identifying a smell which brought me straight back to a moment when I was less than 5 years old, visiting Ireland. The smell was a mixture of rain, earth, dead leaves, lichen and moss. It was enticing and I kept stopping simply to smell! When I arrived up at the barrows, there was no doubt that this was an amazing spot to view the surrounding scenery, but today, it was wild and windy, and absolutely filled with clouds. I laughed at this metaphor for my life right now - it's all there, but can't be seen at the moment. I'll be back on a clear day to see the view, and there's hope that everything may be clearer. It's like the saying that something is not lost, just not found yet.
